Then why exactly did the Piraka even want the Mask of Life if they can’t even use it?

If I may put in an opinion…
Originally, the Piraka’s plan was never to get the Mask of Life. In the books, they became rogue Dark Hunters that wanted money. This led them to Makuta Teridax’s old lair where they found his now empty body (we learn eventually about how the Makuta had evolved out of true physical forms during the Toa Mistika age) and during this time, the spirit of Makuta Teridax influences them. Makuta Teridax’s influence largely affects Zaktan but the greed and want for the Mask of Life is still there in each of the Piraka. This leads them to Voya Nui and, as it was never addressed directly again, we can assume that Teridax’s influence never deserted the Piraka and is why they aimed to retrieve it all the way to Mahri Nui.

This would also explain Vezon’s outburst to the Toa Inika about how the Piraka were fools to believe they could handle the power. The Piraka didn’t believe that, they were on a retrieval mission for Teridax. They were pawns. Something that Matoro figured out (ad Vezon congratulated him on).

True. Good point. It seems a little odd that the fact that none of them can even use it never occurred to them, but I suppose their species isn’t known for its rationality.

It has been that way for years. Greg may now think that Skakdi can’t wear Kanohi, but I don’t think this claim to be true to his original intent.

At this point, I believe the guy has distanced himself so much from the history, so he just answers whatever he thinks.
